What is the greatest freedom?

Freedom from fear. This is a freedom that only I can provide myself, and it is one of the toughest things a person could create for himself. But freedom from fear frees my heart and my mind, and gives me the potential to live more fully than any other freedom.

What about freedom of choice? I can choose to live in fear, or choose to live a life of love. Our ability to choose how to act and respond to stimulation is a key difference between humans and other life forms.

Choose compassion.

Yes, the freedom of choice is a very important freedom. It is a precursor to the freedom from fear, because, generally, we can choose between fear and love.

However. The fact that freedom of choice is a precursor to freedom from fear does not automatically make it more important. I will not say that freedom from fear is the most important freedom, but it is the freedom that has the most to do with living a peaceful and compassionate life.

The freedom of choice does not lead directly to peace. We often make choices that lead directly away from peace! But freedom from fear is a necessary and major element of peace, compassion, love, and happiness.

Fear tears rifts in our minds and closes up our hearts. This directly reduces our peace and happiness.
